Virtual Private Server Hosting at Bns Hosting

August 27, 2009 - 10:02 am No Comments
BNS Hosting asked:

If you are looking for multi-tenancy, virtualization, resource management and clustering, you can try hosting virtual private server. Virtual private server or commonly known as virtual dedicated server allows resellers full control and allocation of resources to their clients. Virtual Dedicated Server hosting acts as a bridge between shared web hosting services and dedicated server hosting services. Using VPS is providing a high level of control that has now become the most popular choice for resellers.

The biggest advantage of using VPS is its cheaper cost compared to dedicated server. And usually runs its own copy of the operating system to customers with super-user level access. You as the “owner” of the VPS can install any software that runs on the operating system. Reasons why you might consider when choosing VPS are:

media. When just starting your business, you have your shared hosting server. But first we must expand and exceed the features of your online business, you have more web space, memory, etc. You have the choice between a dedicated server and VPS. Dedicated hosting is expensive, so choose VPS.

More power. In VPS, you are actually using the services of a dedicated server that has been divided into a number of servers. Here, you get more bandwidth, memory, space and more control.

profitable. From VPS offers the advantages of a dedicated hosting server, but at a lower cost, this hosting service is the best hosting plan if you are considering the cost.

complete root access: Just like a dedicated server, virtual private server gives you unlimited access to root. This means you have complete freedom to configure your website without affecting other websites. By the same token, any changes made by exchange sites your server will have no impact on its website. Because of this, you can eliminate the risk of downtime due to mistakes made by others. Since private servers are virtually invisible to each other, their website has complete functional isolation.

Total Security: As dedicated servers, virtual servers do not share their space with other clients. Therefore, you enjoy total security.

While deciding who / where to buy VPS hosting service, you should try asking the following questions:

1. What are the specifications of the host server, RAM, CPU, processor, disk space provided, the bandwidth, and if you can provide on how many VPS is already running on the host server.?

2. How is it managed resource contention? What if one of the VPS are running out of disk space, how to deal with these?

If you are planning your own website hosting, sharing a virtual private server is a very viable option. You want to make sure they fully understand the server-side constraints, such as the maximum amount of CPU and network resources available, but many private servers virtual machines offer more than enough for almost any website. Factors to be considered in choosing a virtual private server hosting are, cost, safety and efficiency. The only drawback here is, if they are unaware of how to manage your own server, you choose the shared hosting service. However, if the hosting company that will host your virtual private server is 24 / 7 technical support, you can apply at any time, of how to manage the server.

With VPS service BNS, control your virtual dedicated server via Microsoft RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) and install applications on your server. You create your own database for user authentication and use your dedicated IP address. This IP address of your dedicated server isolated from the common problems associated with shared hosting shared IP address listed in spam blacklists. Basic Concepts of Web Hosts

August 13, 2009 - 4:10 pm No Comments

Web Hosting asked:

The one who wants to enter in this web world and desires for a long time survival, then he/she should be familiar with each and every terminology used in this field. If user considers all the important factors before choosing a hosting plan then only he/she will be able to have a successful future in this world .User should not choose any of the plan, rather he/she should opt the best and most suitable one and this can only be made possible by fetching more and more informations and also by studying properly all the requirements. New comers should start from the basics .They should learn the meaning of each and every term used and also in addition those factors that can affect his/her selection.

Web Host

Web host refers to a computer connected to the internet. Web host can also be termed as ‘web server’. The computer that is playing the role of the web server needs to be more powerful than normal PCs and the function of this web server is to serve up websites.

The website content of the user will remain will on this computer, so as the people who are surfing on the internet can get a way to access his/her website.

There can be three main categories in which the web host can be classified based on the economic factor and common features:

1. Free Hosts:

The users who are not professional but are making website only as a hobby then for them free hosting can be a good option. In free hosting space, bandwidth and other features provided are very limited. With free web hosting one can not only make his/her website successful but is also suitable for personal websites or for temporary usage. Generally free hosting enforces pop-up, text or banner ads. Reliability, best performance and customer support lacks in case of free hosting as well. When a user registers for a free host then the word free host gets added with the user’s domain name that gives an adverse effect in the eye of the visitors.

2. Shared Hosts:

The next type of the web hosting to be discussed is shared hosting. This hosting service is used by many of the web sites .This type of hosting service is Suitable for personal, small and medium businesses. This service can be used by paying $1 to $25 per month. The features provided by this service vary from very limited space/bandwidth to semi-dedicated servers. The users host their website by this type of hosting service and it has its own top level domain facility. No doubt that shared web hosting is quite better than free hosting but still it does not provide 100% satisfactory services. In case of shared hosting one server is shared by the number of websites so its performance and availability gets affected. More websites usually means less performance. If less number of websites are hosted by one server then it will be more expensive, but in this case there are more chances of reliability. There are many companies allowing customers to host multiple websites with different domains under a single account.

3. Dedicated Hosts:

The next type of hosting is dedicated hosting. This type of hosting is most reliable hosting. In this type of hosting a full server is dedicated to a single customer. Generally this type of hosting is used by large businesses, professionals and very active websites dealing with thousands of visitors daily. The customers having dedicated hosting can have their total control over the server as well as able to create as many websites as they like. Customers can run their own hosting company on a rented dedicated server. Payment module is mentioned according to specifications and services provided with the server, which varies from $100 up to about $800 dollars per month.

4. Collocated Hosts:

Now the other type of hosting service to be discussed is collocated hosting. This service is very much similar to dedicated hosting. The difference between collocated hosting and dedicated hosting is that in collocated hosting the customer owns the server hardware instead of renting it. In this service the server will be placed in provider’s data center. This service is more expensive than dedicated hosting.

5. Reseller Hosts:

In reseller hosting the providers offers web server storage to their customers, and resells the web server storage to them. Generally providers offer resellers a discount price.

6. Other Hosts:

Including the above type of hosts there are also many other hosts such as email hosts, media hosts, data hosts, etc but these hosts will not be discussed in this article.

Domain Name

Domain name is the name which shows the place where one’s website is located. The actual address of the website is a set of numbers. Each and every web server has its own unique address. Domain name indicates the real addresses of every websites. One can easily remember the domain name of any of the website. Remembering domain name is easier than recalling the IP addresses.

Space / Storage

Space is one of the services provided by the web host. It plays a very important role in the website development. It happens many times that the customer requires more space but the host fails to provide it, so customer should be very careful while choosing the web host. Storage is the amount of web server’s disk space available for customer’s website files, images and databases. Space can be according to the requirement; it can be as small as 5MB in some free hosts and as big as 300GB for some dedicated servers. Earlier prices of the space were very high but prices reduced significantly during the last few years. The hosting plans offering 3GB of space for less than $10 a month can be easily available.

Bandwidth

Bandwidth can be defined as the amount of data transferred from web server to clients’ internet browsers. When ever a person outlook a page the data is transmitted from the server to that person’ PC. If any one is having audio, video and images in his/her website then the bandwidth consumed is more in comparison of the website having only text contents. The bandwidth available in free hosting can be as low as 100MB per month where as in some dedicated servers the bandwidth available is as high as 2000GB a month. The customers who don’t want to pay more for bandwidth can easily find hosting plans offering 75GB of monthly data transfer for less than $10.

Server Type

Generally server means the operating system than runs the web server. Some common types are Windows, Linux and UNIX. Server type refers the server side scripting and database types. The difference between Windows server and Linux/UNIX is that Windows runs ASP and ASP.NET with Access or SQL Server databases where as Linux/UNIX servers usually runs CGI, PHP or JSP with MySQL or Oracle databases. The other difference is that Windows servers are more expensive than Linux/UNIX servers.

Databases

As server type is discussed earlier also, we are able to know that there are different types of databases available. The mostly used is MySQL as it is open source GPL (free) software and can serve a lot of online applications’ requirements such as forums, content management, mailing lists, etc. MySQL, rather its features are limited. MySQL is sufficient for small concern but it is not powerful for the complicated large business sites. Large business requires more powerful databases such as Oracle or SQL Server.

.

Server Side Scripting

Usually the new comers prefer to use PHP as server side scripting. The reason behind this is that there are hundreds of open source (GPL) PHP scripts that are able to fulfill the webmaster’s requirements. However PHP also has some limitations in features required by advanced websites same as in the case of MySQL, due to this limitation some professional web developers prefer to use ASP.NET or JSP. Some other developers still prefer to use Cold Fusion, CGI, ASP or PERL.

Email

Now the next very important aspect to be talked about is Email. At present no one can move further in this computer world with having his/her Email account. The one who is planning to do any kind of activity through computer such as to run a business or to provide any kind of service, then the first thing he/she need to do is to open an Email account. There are many hosting plans that include the feature of having some email accounts with customer’s domain. The availability of number and size of email accounts totally depends on the hosting plan one opted. Generally this feature is not included in free hosting. Small plans provide only about 10 accounts where as big plans do not have the limited number. Usually those email accounts are web based and accessible through POP3 clients as well.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

The other service is FTP. File Transfer Protocol is a usual way of transferring files across the Internet. Most of the webmasters used to upload and download their websites contents through FTP. The process of uploading or downloading is performed by using FTP client software. Webmasters require FTP username and password so as to access their web server. There are any hosts who use to provide more than one FTP account to their customers as per their requirement. Rather FTP is unspecified; it is not advisable as per the security reasons.

Control Panel

Control panel is the service available by many of the web hosting companies to their customers. It is a web based application that helps in managing websites. Some important functions performed by the control panel are that it used to manage email accounts, providing statistics, managing FTP accounts, managing domains and sub-domains and managing databases. The control panel application that is mostly used by the user is cPanel. There are many companies who use to develop their own control panel application.

Uptime

Now after having all the services, the thing of concern which remains is how the user keeps his/her website uptime most of the time. If anyone is having a website with excellent features but it remains down most of the time it will be of no use, as when ever the visitors visit his/her website and found it down then later on they will think twice before visiting it. In result he/she will suffer the loss of visitors. Uptime is very important feature of web hosts and that is usually measured in percentage. If a server remains down near about 30 minutes a day will have an uptime percentage of about 99.98%, which is acceptable for most small to medium business websites. If any of the business website is not having at least this percentage of uptime then that website is not suitable for a business website. Mission critical sites cannot tolerate frequent outages, thus they may use web monitoring services to notify web administrators immediately when an outage happens.

Price

Finally the factor left is price. In this option also there is a great variability found like for example customer is having option to choose between the prices ranging from 0 to $1000 per month. For most personal, small and medium websites the total amount of cost involved is just $15 per month. Thus its not at all advisable for business website owners to select very cheap plans let say less than $5 because this price can lead to huge cost indirectly afterwards.

July 16, 2009 - 8:40 am No Comments
Web Host asked:

Due to various inefficiencies in the old provider of Web Hosting Support I like the poor, down web server, old provider’s inability to meet his requirements, costly service web hosting, online business owner decided to go for a new web hosting provider. Because of all the above and more not on the list you opt for new web hosting service. The next step is to transfer your website as the current web host to the new web host that can be done following the steps below. The transfer time to transfer the old web hosting, planning must be done in advance, can atleast a month before that to ensure smooth transfer, and transferring in less than a month led to the inaccessibility of its Web site. Register as a new web hosting service. The above passage is once complete, the user must go to a new web hosting service and therefore must be signed within 24 hours to allow new account as early as possible. Take the backup files as soon as you create a new web hosting account, you should take backup of all your web files to the new supplier. You usually have and all your website files on your local computer is still beneficial to backup all your files from the old web server. Encourage including HTML files, backup any script file, database file and even file server must be taken daily. Create after that a directory structure similar to the structure of web server directory and then load the file into its respective directory. The loading of filesYou receive an email notification of their new web-hosting provider after notification of your new web hosting account. The information required for setting up a website including FTP server information all will be provided within that email. With the help of that user’s information can now ftp ftp your new web-hosting server and can upload all your files. First the user must create a directory structure and then can upload all their files in their respective directories. The user can also install any file or database of writing if used on your website and should also set their email accounts with the help of the administration panel. After finishing the loading of all files and installing the script files or temporary URL of the databases can be used to test the new site. The temporary URL can be obtained from direct mail notification of new web hosting provider. The test of the new web site of the new websiteThe can be tested online using a temporary URL directory. As different server web hosting server environment requires different work, that ‘s why the user needs to verify all the scripts as CGI, Perl if they are working as per the requirement or not. All hyperlinks should be tested further in standard web pages to confirm that no broken links there. His website received at the old provider of web hosting continues to be operational, even when you are testing through the temporary directory URL. The transfer of the domain name after finishing the new website of proof on the temporary URL and verification of its perfect execution, next step is to contact the new domain name registrar to change the old domain name server to point the new DNS web hosting provider. There, after the user gets the DNS information via email after he finished the successful registration with the new web hosting provider and also get information from websites of your new web hosting provider. The purpose of domain name servers is to control how to resolve the domain name. The Domain Name are commonly in the following format: The domain name registrar for NS1.THE-NEW-WEB-HOSTING.COMNS2.THE-NEW-WEB-HOSTING.COMSome requires the IP address of the DNS. In this case you must provide the IP address of your new DNS. For example: NS1: 216,193,194,212 NS2: Information 216,193,207,106 DNS to change and spread through all the shots of the WHOIS servers typically 24 to 72 hours. Tools such as Whois whois.com Internet can be use to monitor the transfer status of the DNS. The DNS will be displayed again once the transfer is complete. Even minor changes are possible as the user can upload his own file or table to the new web-hosting server. When the user checks their homepage with the normal Domain Name he may notice the new home page, making sure that the transfer of the DNS is correct. The final test now, its Web site in the new web hosting provider is officially transferred and online. You must repeat all tests to make sure it is fully – functional. You may continue thereafter terminate your old web hosting account after it receives the final confirmation.

What is Shared Hosting?

April 5, 2009 - 1:18 pm No Comments

Luigi Castagna asked:

When a single server serves pages for many websites, each with its own domain name then this type of hosting is known as shared hosting.

What happens is that some small companies do not want to use their resources to host their website on a dedicated server, as it requires a system administrator and the companies want to save their own time and money.

As the companies want to minimize the cost so the shared hosting service provider is mainly responsible for the management of the servers, server software installation, installation of anti virus and security updates, technical support related to the above-mentioned services. As many companies use Linux operating system because of its reliability, so many companies mainly offer Linux basted servers. Some hosts also provide Microsoft windows based servers and solutions. Both of the operating systems have similar functions but they differ in operating system related issues.

How it works:

Web hosting can be done by two methods; name based hosting and IP based hosting. The name based hosting uses a single IP that is utilized by different hostnames/web sites. When a browser requests a web page from a server using HTTP/1.1 then it also includes a hostname that is used for finding the web site that can then be delivered to the user.

IP based hosting has the advantage that each host has its own IP address. This helps the sites to use their own SSL certificate, which helps in increasing the security. In contrast to name based hosting method, where there is only one IP address used by all the hostnames/web sites. Many people/companies prefer IP based hosting method because of the above mentioned reason. Many servers are changing their web hosting method to IP based hosting as it offers much more security then name based hosting method. But one important thing to remember about shared hosting, no matter which method is used, is that they are always a bit insecure.

Advantages and Disadvantages:-

The companies lack control over the server as the server is shared by many, so they cannot ask for extra privileges. There is an added threat of insecurity as the shared server might not always be secure. On the other hand, one can save quite some money and time by using shared hosting. No system administrator is needed as it is a shared hosting.

Name based hosts are not compatible with old browsers that do not send the hostname as part of the requests. For example, the older HTTP/1.0 browsers that were not upgraded cannot send the hostname as part of their requests. They also do not support HTTPS websites, as all name-based hosts using the same IP must share the same digital certificate. A TLS extension gives a way for the client to provide the hostname as part of the handshake’. If the DNS or Domain Name System is not working properly then the name based hosted website is difficult to use and using an IP address in the address bar would not work as many website are sharing same IP.
